Genin Arc:Kohaku was your average teenage boy back then he was a 'kid',you could say he was very playful and took nothing serious,he often slept making him very lazy and sluggish,he and his team when on a mission where he almost died by the hands of an S-ranked ninja,you see the man who requested the mission made it seem like an ordinary escort C-ranked mission but it wasn't seeing as how he had a very large hit on his head,Kohakus' sensi when to the hospital and so did his fellow teammates he was the only one with minor damage and was release a day or so after..while his team was in the hospital healing Kohaku went to the Jade clan elders and request his train for the Kougan...two years later he had finally unlocked his Kyotogan which had the abilities of the Konoha's Uchiha clan Sharingan but gave Crystal charka.And he stop being so playful,he became more serious about things.

Chuunin Arc:Since unlocking his Kyotogan Kohaku has been on several mission and all of them complete,so his sensi said he was finally ready to take the chuunin exams,which he had a very hard time passing,but on his first try he finish and obtain the rank of chuunin at age 15.The Raikage soon took him under his wing and trained him under harsh condition as he hyphened his lighting release techniques..the reason why the Raikage chose Kohaku was because he said he reminded him of himself when he was young,and he had that same look in his eye as he once did "to be the best".
